Izzo Swami Gold GPS Overview:

Izzo Swami Golf GPSIt’s small, its compact and it accurate measures the distance to the front, middle and back of the green on over 19,000 pre-programed courses world-wide.

And that is pretty much it.

For less than $100 you’ll be hard pressed to find a gps device that can compete. The Whistler by Golf Digest can only handle 9holes at a time (plus you have to upgrade if you want more than the 5 pre-programed courses) while the Bushnell Neo (not the Neo Plus) requires an annual subscription to iGolf to download courses.

Ready to use right out the box, the Izzo is very fast, accurate and simple to use. No hassle, no downloads, no annual fees and no registering with obscure websites online.

It’s so fast it doesn’t just update in real time, it can update while you’re whizzing around in your golf cart (– most of the rivals need a few moments to adjust after you’ve stopped).

The battery life is good, the lithium re-chargeable battery lasts a solid 12 hours and the unit comes ready to use out of the box.

In my opinion it’s more convenient than a larger handheld device since you simple clip the unit to your belt and at a glance you can easily read the screen and know the distance to the green.

The biggest downside is it doesn’t update automatically between holes, you have to do that manually but fortunately the buttons are large enough and easy to access.

All in all you really the Izzo is great value for money and you’ll struggle to find a unit that matches it’s simplicity and functionality.

If you’re looking for an alternative consider the Bushnell Neo Plus which will set you back an additional $30 or so.
